He’s sung fast numbers and kuthu songs. But, actor Vijay — who is singing in almost all his films these days (Google Google in Thuppakki and Vaangana in Thalaivaa) — has recently recorded a melody number for his upcoming film Jilla, which has music by D Imman. The song will be a duet by Vijay and Shreya Ghoshal.
Says D Imman, “I’d recorded this track and given it to Vijay more than a month ago. He listened to it several times, because he wanted to practise the tune, which will be his first pure melody in Tamil cinema. After recording Shreya’s lines for it, we got Ilayathalapathy to come in on Sunday and recorded his voice in a session that lasted many hours. He was very reticent about singing a melody number, but we’re very happy with the way it has come out. It has a lot of folk elements too as Jilla is set against theMadurai backdrop.”
